CANV(US)
CANVUS (Computationally Arranged Network of Visual-Auditory Uncontrolled Synthesis) is an interactive multi-media immersive projection installation that generates real-time, audio-visual feedback from body mechanics and motion tracking data.

Interactivity
Any interaction in the space creates reactions lasting beyond the initial trigger, building a visual and auditory landscape that evolves and accumulates the inputs of previous participants. Every user brings their own audio and visual manipulation to the piece, creating an emergent contemporal experience combining the lasting effects of all those who have been present within the space. Each interaction adds additional layers, dissipating and revealing at different rates.
Audio and Visuals
The audio consists largely of live field recording from the surrounding area of the installed location, as well as digital synths, effects and manipulations. The visuals consist of an alternating combination of motion graphic scenes which utilize both fully procedural, digital imagery as well as visual effects created using physical media such as paint, dye, ink, and found objects. The work is designed to be intensely scalable, iterative, and it is capable of generating audio-visual feedback from unique tracking data per participant for multiple individuals simultaneously, creating a personalized experience for every user.
Layering Effects
The piece represents the paradoxical dichotomy of the temporary yet long-lasting impacts of interactions, demonstrating how actions which are no longer observable or identifiable leave lasting echoes that are both conscious and subconscious. In the work, visitors are encouraged to enter the space and move their bodies freely and observe how the space responds. This method of presentation creates an exploratory, experimental encounter as each user learns how they affect the space as they enter and influence in real-time.
The Process
The current version uses a 2 projector and stereo sound, tracking data from a single webcam.
Created using Touch Designer, Logic, and Reaper connected wirelessly through OSC.
